Soundtrack Pro

We got a chance to experiment adding sound in a video by using Soundtrack Pro. The program already has a variety of sounds which may be really helpful in our editing of our film. To experiment these sounds, we used the opening of Arlington Road from the last lessons and tried out some sounds until we got an interesting approach.

The following screen grab shows the bar of sounds included in Soundtrack Pro:
We choose the sounds from different categories, here for example we picked a sound of breathing, from many different breathing types, we chose the one we thought fitted better to the film. We simply drag the sound to the storyline. Here is a screen shot of how the storyline looks after the song is added:
The top green bar is the video, and the little bars underneath are the sounds added. We can change their volume by with the tools in the left side.
This is a screen shot of our storyline after we finished editing it all. As you can see some sounds overlap each other to add different effects and create different feelings to the film.

Here is the result of our Soundtrack Pro sound foley project:

We added this drone sound in the beginning creating an atmosphere of tension and disequilibrium. When  it comes closer to the title of the film we decided to reduce the sound and the title is introduced with a whoosh sound, which makes it more dramatic. We added another sound effect that clearly suggests that something is wrong. This sound effect fitted nicely with the point of view shot that shows his unconsciousness. It helps to give a sense of being in trance, as he probably is out of his mind. With the close up of his mouth we introduce the deep breathing sound. Soon after another point of view shot, we added another deep breathing effect, but this time a faster one suggesting that he is getting worse and worse. The scary sound effect comes up again, but with more intensity, emphasising the child's bad state of mind. Later on we just tried to add the sound of the car. This is how far we got with our experiment. It was good to give us an idea of how to create suspense with sound and also that we need to think of diegetic sound that will need to be added afterwards as well.
