The use of children in scary films

Children are used in many thrillers and horror films. Their innocent and pure figure is corrupted to usually an evil figure. Transforming a symbol of purity and innocence in a symbol of evil makes it even scarier than commonly scary things because our expectations of children are always good and kind. Children became almost a convention of scary films like horror or thriller.

The Omen
He looks like a normal cute child. His face seems innocent when actually he is a demonic child that whenever he is around something bad always happens.

The Sixth Sense
Although the child is not evil, he is surrounded by evil. This is a psychological thriller. The use of the little boy as a kind of 'connection' to the world of dead makes it scarier because children are more helpless, fragile and scared. There is also the mystery behind why does the little boy see dead people.

Hide and Seek
This little girl has an imaginary friend who she suggests has been making a series of dangerous and rather scary things happen. In this film there is also the mystery between the game hide-and-seek that thee child plays with Charlie, and these scary happenings. We associate the child to them.

Orphan
Esther is adopted, she seems to be an innocent loving child. However, she is not as normal as she seems and she makes bad things happen to people, but always refuses to admit it.
She is the main inspiration to the creation of our own character.

Our character:
Our child will be a little girl who also seems to be normal and innocent. However, we find out throughout the film that there is something different about her and her behaviour is not as normal. She is disturbed by voices telling her to do things, but her parents don't know it and the audience only finds it out later.
