Discrete film openings inspiring us

The discrete opening of 'Se7en' shows actions that tell about the main character obsessive behaviour as well as it shows his psychopath mind through the type of actions and the editing. The stylised editing + sound  help to create this thrilling atmosphere and helps to build the character. Discrete title sequences often use editing in order to achieve a thrilling and rather scary effect on the audience. We want to use some shots that will help to create the disturbed mind/behaviour of our character and a good editing that will make the audience feel the thrilling mood of the film right from the title sequence.

In 'Arlington Road', the discrete opening shows lots of shots of normal/common things that are symbolic. What makes the title sequence scary is the editing and the sound. The editing really creates this sense of anticipation of something evil. We want to have some shots of normal things that are symbolic and make them scary by the way it will be edited.

This is not the film opening, it is the end title sequence of 'Orphan'. Although it is at the end, when I watched it, it felt like a discrete title sequence, and as the whole film is our main inspiration I thought the credits could also inspire us in some way. Like in 'Se7en' or 'Arlington Road', the editing is very effective and helps to create this thrilling mood. The shots used are symbolic and representative of the disturbed main character  (Esther).

As we are looking forward to make a good editing in our discrete opening, the way the clips above are edited will serve as inspiration to our title sequence.
